Barcelona agreed to sign Portugal top defender as talks advanced

The Spanish Champions are in talks with Manchester City over a move for defender Joao Cancelo, talkSPORT understands.
City would prefer a permanent deal for the full back, who spent the second half of last season with Bayern Munich. Cancelo, who Man City signed in 2019 for around £60million from Juventus, fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola.

He went on to help Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga title, meaning he got two league winner’s medals for the 2022/23 campaign.
Arsenal had been linked with a move for the 29-year-old earlier this summer, but there was a reluctance from City to strengthen one of their title rivals.

Bayern had the option to sign Cancelo on a £61m deal at the end of his loan, but decided against it. He instead could get his Etihad exit by joining LaLiga giants Barcelona. Barca boss Xavi signalled his intention to sign a new right-back this summer.
He wants to use the money from Ousmane Demebele’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain to invest in a full-back. “With the departure of Dembele, we need a pure right-back now,” said Xavi after a 1-0 friendly win over AC Milan.

The Barca legend was clearly furious with the way Dembele, and PSG, have handled the transfer. He said: “I will be very clear. Dembele has asked us to leave. He has a proposal from PSG and that’s why he didn’t play.
“It’s a pity. I’m a little disappointed with Dembele. It leaves a bad taste to me because we had taken great care of him here so that he is happy and content and continues to make a difference for us. “But we cannot match an offer from PSG that is completely out of the market.
