Manchester City will not stand in Bernardo Silva’s way if he insists on leaving this summer, but they will require that his full value be paid.

Silva wanted to leave City for Barcelona last summer, but the club refused and told the Portugal international he couldn’t go this season.

Barcelona also approached City in January, but City insisted that he stay with them until at least this summer. The Catalans are now ready to return ahead of next season to try to sign Silva again if he pushes for the move as predicted.

Pep Guardiola has long stated to all of his players that he does not want anyone to stay if they do not want to play for the club, regardless of their position. City have demonstrated this in recent years by letting players such as Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus to leave the club.

Despite his importance to the team, City sources insist that Silva has the option to leave if he so desires. However, the former Monaco star is under contract until 2025, and any club interested in him will have to pay his market value, around £75 million.

PSG are big fans of Silva and are ready to make a play for him. Yet it

Barcelona, on the other hand, is keeping an eye on more than simply Silva. They are interested in a number of players this summer, including fellow City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has the added benefit of being a free agent if his contract expires.

Despite their efforts to capture Gundogan and Silva, Barcelona’s first priority remains Lionel Messi. They are working hard to put together an agreement, which must also be approved by La Liga, which has refused to do so in the past with contracts for players such as Gavi and Ronald Araujo.

Barcelona is optimistic of completing a deal for Messi and addressing other obstacles. However, in order to pursue a deal for Silva, they will need to raise funds. That means player sales, and while they may cash in on Frenkie De Jong and Ousmane Dembele, it does illustrate how impossible a Silva transfer would be in these circumstances.

It is understood that if Barcelona cannot reach an agreement, Silva will not try to leave City and will remain in Manchester. Indeed, City sources have not ruled out tying him to a new contract if a move to Camp Nou fails to materialize.
