Liverpool make blockbuster transfer bid to sign Barcelona star

According to reports from Futbol Total, Liverpool has made a surprise offer for Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong (via SI). The Reds have reportedly made a £60 million offer for the Dutchman’s services, according to the report.

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has revised his position on the possibility of bringing in a new midfielder during the current summer transfer window.

The German manager spoke to the media prior to the Reds’ Premier League matchup against Bournemouth and insisted that he was mistaken to rule out the acquisition of a midfielder this summer.

The Reds may add a new midfielder in the coming days, but only if the “perfect one” becomes available, according to Klopp. He stated:

“Obviously now, it would be wonderful to get a fresh midfielder in. I did, in fact, say that we didn’t need a midfielder, but you proved me wrong. We are now looking for a midfielder. We will take action, but it must be the proper action.
Now, Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, according to reports, could end up being that midfielder.

Throughout the summer, the Dutchman was frequently mentioned in connection with transfers to Manchester United, but those whispers have subsided in recent days. This summer, Chelsea is rumored to have expressed interest in the former Ajax midfielder.

De Jong moved to Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for a reported €75 million cost, but he hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations. The suspected Liverpool target has appeared in 142 matches for the Blaugrana, contributing to 18 assists and scoring 13 goals.

The exile from Barcelona may help Liverpool’s midfield, but a transfer seems improbable. It has not been a great start for the Reds because Jurgen Klopp’s team has been plagued by injuries. De Jong might turn out to be a much-needed boost to Liverpool’s struggling midfield this season

De Jong leaving Barcelona this summer, though, seems incredibly unlikely.
