Manuel Akanji, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, has officially moved to Manchester City after the transfer was finalized.
The center back, who is 27 years old, will be joining the club on a five-year contract, which will keep him there until the summer of 2027.
As our fifth signing of the summer, he follows in the footsteps of former Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, former Dortmund teammate Stefan Ortega Moreno, former Dortmund teammate Kalvin Phillips, and former Dortmund teammate Sergio Gomez. He has won trophies in both Switzerland and Germany. Julian Alvarez also joined us after his loan stint with River Plate. He has 41 caps for Switzerland.

Akanji began his professional career in his home country of Switzerland with FC Winterthur. He then moved to Basel, where he played for three seasons and was successful enough to convince Dortmund to sign him in January of 2018.
During his time with the Black and Yellows, which spanned almost four and a half years, he played 158 games and won both the German Super Cup in 2019 and the German Cup in 2020/21.
After completing his move to the Etihad Stadium, Akanji expressed his happiness to mancity.com by saying, “I am happy to be here, and I can’t wait to get started.”
